Jessie Richardson Murphy

Jessie Leigh was born in Henry County, VA to the parents of Rev. Roy T. Richardson Sr. and Jessie Thomasson Richardson. She was the third eldest of five siblings. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by brother, Roy. T. Richardson, Jr.; sisters, Ida Deaton, Eva Edwards and Bonnie Haley; granddaughter, April Hammock; one niece, two nephews, special friend, Johnny Morris, and her cats, Punkin and Pebbles.

She was a member of Chatham Heights Baptist Church and was a true Christian woman who always showed kindness and compassion to others. She was employed by Centel Telephone Company for most of her working years.

Jessie Leigh (also known by her loved ones as Meemaw and Aunt Dee-Dee) lived a long life and will be forever remembered by those who knew her. She is survived by daughters, Charlene Adkins (Steve) and Audrey Hammock (Larry); granddaughter, Mallory Gilley (Daniel Ward), great-grandsons, Jaden and Rylan Hammock; and many nieces, and nephews.

The memorial will be on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. with Mike Hatfield officiating at Chatham Heights Baptist Church. The visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at the church.
