Jewel Elaine Gentry Thomas

Ms. Jewel Elaine Gentry Thomas, age 79, of Mount Airy passed away on Monday, May 1, 2023, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Ms. Thomas was born in Surry County on April 14, 1944, to the late Lawrence and Wilma Hawks Gentry. Jewel was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother sister, and friend. She will be deeply missed by all that knew her. She is survived by her special friend and fiancé, Danny Butcher; daughter, Paula Johnson (Mark), son, Tony Jessup (Regina); grandchildren; Keila Butcher, Brittany Creed, Tyler Jessup, Cody Jessup, great-grandchildren, Brooklyn Terrell, Keimarii Butcher, Cash Carlton; great-great-grandchild, Emery Thomas; sisters, Patsy Watson (Jerry), Ginger Jones. In addition to her parents, Ms. Thomas was preceded in death by a daughter, Sheila Lee Thomas Butcher; and a brother, Edward Gentry. A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 5, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Holy Cross Missionary Baptist Church in Mount Airy with Rev. Butch Holder, and Rev. John Kinder officiating. Interment will follow in the Holy Cross Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until the time for the service at the church.
