Jimmy Rodney Adkins
Jimmy Rodney Adkins, 86, of Roanoke, went to rest with the Lord on May 10, 2024 after several recent illnesses. Jimmy was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy (Dot) Adkins, parents Charles Lowell and Kate Adkins, brother Reed Adkins, and sister Jane Crallè. Jimmy is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly and Michael Crawford of Charlotte, NC and his grandchildren, Andrew and Kate Crawford, sister and brother-in-law, Elaine and Jim Wymer. four nieces, two nephews and numerous cousins.
Jimmy graduated from Buchanan High School, and shortly afterwards was drafted into the army where he spent time in Kansas and Germany. Serving in the military was always a special source of pride for him. He worked at ITT and Roanoke Cement where he was fondly known as “The old man”. He made lifelong friends while there before retiring. Jimmy was a longtime member of Mill Creek Baptist Church and later, First Baptist Church in Roanoke.
The family is deeply grateful to all the health care professionals and caregivers who took care of Jimmy over the past 16 months. We would like to give a special thanks to the hospice staff of VIA Health Partners and the Levine and Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville, NC. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 14, 2024 in the Buchanan Chapel of Botetourt Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Monday, May 13, 2024 from 5 to7 p.m. at Botetourt Funeral Home, 14920 Lee Highway, Buchanan VA 24066. 540-254-3000
