Joan Carol Adkins Routt, 85, of Appomattox passed away on June 1, 2023, at Fairmont Crossing Health and Rehab Center. She was the wife of Ryland Russell Routt.

Born in Lynchburg on November 23, 1937, she was the daughter of the late David C. Adkins and Ella Elizabeth Robertson Adkins.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Linda Carol Nierman and husband, Heath of Petersburg; three grandchildren, Timothy Andrew Peak, Ryland David Nierman, and Elizabeth McKenzie Nierman; two sisters, Bobbie Adkins of Evergreen, and Sharon Etheridge of Upper Marlboro, Md; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Freddy Buryl Adkins, and David C. Adkins; and a sister, Ella Mildred Leatherwood.

A funeral service will be held at 2 pm, Monday, June 5, 2023, at Robinson Funeral Home with Pastor Heath Rickmond officiating. Burial will follow in Rocks Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
