Joan Merrricks Hammock

Joan Merricks Hammock, 71, passed away peacefully at her residence on February 2, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Joan was born in Pittsylvania County on January 24, 1955 to the late Ruth Lewis Merricks and the late Frank Merricks Sr. She was also predeceased by her loving husband of many years, Mr. Paul Homer Hammock Sr.

Joan was of the Christian Faith, and was a member of Chestnut Level Baptist Church. She was a loving Homemaker and greatly loved her entire family. She also ran her own cleaning service for many years.

Joan is survived by a daughter; Michelle Johnson of Blairs, VA; a son; Timothy Scott Morehead of Vernon Hill, VA; a step son; Paul H. Hammock Jr. of Danville, VA; a step daughter; Tonya Michelle Hammock of Danville, VA; two brothers; Frank Merricks Jr. (Sue) of Graham, NC and Wayne Merricks (Penny) of Danville, VA; and two sisters; Joyce M. Lloyd and Susan M. Dalton both of Gretna, VA; two grandchildren; Chastity Marie Johnson (Lance) and Hannah Michelle Johnson (Christopher); and two great grandchildren; Aaron Vincent and Ronlee Barley.

A Funeral Service will be conducted on Friday, February 6, 2026 at 2:00pm at Norris Chatham Chapel, with Pastor Zach Hyler officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Burial Park. A visitation will be held prior to the service on the same day from 1-2;00pm also at Norris Chatham Chapel.
