Joann Philpott Perdue

December 22, 1932 - October 7, 2025

Joann Philpott Perdue, a cherished matriarch, and beacon of joy, left this world for her heavenly abode on October 7, 2025, at her residence in Ripplemead, Virginia. Born on December 22, 1932, in Giles County, Virginia, to Emmett Philpott and Helen Echols, Joann's life was a rich tapestry woven with love, adventure, and an enduring passion for the great outdoors.

Joann's early years in Giles County were filled with the splendors of nature that shaped her lifelong interests. She met and married the love of her life, Roven Jackson Perdue, and together they embarked on a journey that would be blessed with moments of pure joy and companionship. Though Roven preceded her in death, the love they shared continued to illuminate Joann's life and the lives of those around her.

A proud mother to her children, Sharon Ellington (Joe), and Greg Perdue (Malisa), Joann instilled in her children the values of kindness, perseverance, and the importance of family. Her role as a grandmother and great-grandmother brought her immeasurable happiness, as she watched her lineage flourish through her grandchildren Michael Perdue, Dana Ellington, Alyssa Romeo, Erica Ellington, Joe Ellington III, Charisma Bailey, and Angelina Bailey; and her great-grandchildren, Hayley Perdue, Aiden Perdue, Skylar Mullins, Adalyn Mullins, Bentley Dickens, and Clara Clark.

Joann's passion for horses was more than a hobby; it was a vital part of her soul. She found peace and solace in the company of these majestic creatures, and her enthusiasm for horse shows was infectious. Her grandchildren often recount fond memories of their grandmother cheering them on, her face alight with pride and joy. Camping trips and travel adventures were frequent, as Joann believed in embracing life's journey with a spirit of discovery and a camera in hand to capture the fleeting moments of beauty. Her photographs are not merely images but visual stories that speak of her ability to see the extraordinary in the ordinary.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Carilion Hospice of the New River Valley for the kindness and love they extended to the family and her as they walked by their side during her final journey.

The family will receive friends in the Birchlawn Abbey in Pearisburg, Virginia on Monday, October 13, 2025 from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM. A funeral service will follow in the Birchlawn Abbey at 11:00 AM with Pastor Shahn Wilburn officiating where she too will be interred.
