John Blaine Smith
JOHN BLAINE SMITH, 91, of Wytheville, VA, passed away Friday with family surrounding him.
He was born in May,1933, in Clear Fork, VA, the son of the late John & Sarah Smith.
John attended Wesendonck Church. He was a mold maker for 40 plus years, initially with Owen Illinois and then Wheaton's. He was an avid hunter and sportsman. He loved guns and knives, and trading and conversing about both. One of the highlights of his life was his elk hunting trip out west to Colorado.
He loved watching television, especially westerns.
He had many “secret” recipes and loved to make rolls, fruit cakes, black walnut cakes, and jerky.
John was preceded in death by his parents, John Edd & Sarah Stowers Smith; an older brother, Earl; and, five sisters, Fairie, Anne, Lucille, Susie and Jane.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 49 years, Nancy Wolfe Smith; his sons & daughters-in-law, Blaine & Irene Smith, David Smith and John Lesley (“Jay”) & Carlie Smith; his daughters & son-in-law, Donna Smith, Pat & Bill Tarry, and Betty Sue Morehead; his grandchildren, Jason, Eric, Will, Ryan, Katie, David, Lincoln, Illeana and Odin; his great-grandchildren, Hayden, Hayley, Hannah, Jackson, Dawson, Hunter, Jaycee, R.J. and Lili; his sister, Helen Williams; his brother-in-law, Robert Gross and numerous special nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 7, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. at A. Vest & Sons Funeral Home Chapel, White Gate, with Pastor Brian Consley and Rev. Ted Anders officiating. Burial will follow in Shiloh Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00 P.M. until service time, 2:00 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, the Smith family suggests memorial donations be made in John’s honor to Wythe Hospice of Southwest Virginia, 1155 N 4th St., Wytheville, VA 24382.
