John was a faithful member of Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church for over 30 years. His spiritual journey consisted of serving as regional usher board president and president of Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church. John loved his duty as an usher. Psalms 81:10 "For a day in Thy courts is better than a thousand; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than to dwell in the tents of wickedness."
His accolades in ministry consist of the missionary department, the dietary department, being a transportation driver for several years, and security. His community outreach ministry consists of serving in prison ministry, hospital visits, and nursing homes.
Dad loved the holidays; he would get excited to build props for the church activities. He had a love for the people of his community, and no one was a stranger, whoever had a need, he was always willing to help.
Dad began carpentry with his brothers at a young age, and the love for the skill inspired him to become his own boss and a certified contractor. He was skilled in the gift God gave him as a construction worker. Dad not only built homes; he also worked on building bridges, schools, and commercial buildings. He worked throughout the states of Virginia, North Carolina, and Ohio. He was known for his outstanding carpentry. He was not a lazy man when it came to work, building was his heart’s passion. He was a gifted carpenter with talent. Dad labored in carpentry until his sickness declined his health.
One of his favorite songs is "I wouldn’t take nothing for my journey."
