John Joseph Moore

October 17, 1961 - December 6, 2025

John Joseph Moore, 64, of Roanoke, Virginia, passed away peacefully on December 6, 2025, surrounded by the people who loved him most.

Born on October 17, 1961, in Meadville, Pennsylvania, John was a proud graduate of Meadville Area Senior High School and West Virginia University, where he competed as an avid and dedicated wrestler, an early sign of the discipline, grit, and heart that would define the rest of his life. While at WVU, he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity, a brotherhood that remained meaningful to him throughout the years. A lifelong Mountaineer fan, he carried WVU pride with him everywhere he went.

John spent 37 years building a remarkable career with Ryder Systems Inc., a place where his work ethic, loyalty, and steady leadership left a permanent mark. Over the decades, he earned the respect of colleagues and the friendship of many. His dedication wasn’t just seen in his awards and achievements, it was felt in the way he showed up for people, day after day.

John’s greatest pride was always his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Joan Dooley Moore; his daughters, Erin Cash (husband Philip) and Kasey Moore; his son, Jack Moore; and his granddaughter, Kira Pierce. He will also be deeply missed by his many nieces and nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends, people whose lives were shaped by his generosity, his loyalty, and the unmistakable presence he carried into every room.

John is preceded in death by his parents, John R. and Frances Moore, and his sisters, Rosemarie Rendulic and Connie Temple.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date to honor and remember him.
