John "Little Johnny Wilmer" Albert Wilmer

July 13, 1945 - May 6, 2025

John sadly left us, peacefully at home, in the early hours of May 6th. He was born and raised in Floyd, VA as Little Johnny Wilmer. He headed to Roanoke at age 16 and soon after went to work for American Electric Power (AEP), where he worked almost 40 years before taking early retirement. /div>

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Hilda Wilmer, along with his brother Larry.

He left behind his devoted wife Cynde, five children: Jay, Stephen, Jennifer, Michelle and Mae; seven grandchildren: Layla, Georgianna, Jacob, Maddox, Emry, Zac and Jennifer, several great grandchildren, along with a large family of cousins, sister and brother in laws, nieces, nephews, many friends and Charlie, the very devoted and loving dog that watched over him every day.

John loved his family and friends tremendously. He enjoyed time with them as well as dancing, travelling, yard work, the beach and caring for his property. For many years he participated in an organization for management within utility companies. He did volunteer work for the Red Cross for several years. During that time he traveled to locations of disasters helping those in need. He drove the URV, delivering food and supplies. /div>

He had quite a sense of humor even though he was a quiet man, jokingly stating when he spoke it was an EF Hutton moment, everyone listened. He was a great man. He was always considered the ultimate gentleman, loved by all who knew him and will be sadly missed, but never forgotten.

He was going to have an 80th birthday party this July, instead, family and friends will gather in a celebration of his life. He will be placed, in what he called his “afterlife condo” in the mausoleum at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem.
