John Neely
John Earl Neely Jr., aged 68, passed away peacefully on January 22, 2025, in Pembroke, Virginia, surrounded by the beauty of the landscape he loved so dearly. Born on October 29, 1956, in West Virginia, John grew up with an inherent appreciation for the great outdoors, a passion that would shape the entirety of his life.
John's youth in West Virginia laid the foundation for a life. As he transitioned from the rolling hills of his birthplace to the scenic vistas of Pembroke, Virginia, John carried with him the values instilled by his late parents, John Earl Neely Sr. and Alpha Carter Neely. His beloved wife, Judith Crowder Neely, also preceded him in death.
John's professional life was spent as a groundskeeper at Radford University. Outside of work, John was an avid fisherman and hunter, finding peace and solace in the rhythms of nature. His happiest moments were spent with a fishing rod in hand or quietly waiting for the perfect shot in the woods. His love for animals was evident to all who knew him, as he devotedly tended to his pets, each of whom was considered part of the family.
John's life was enriched by his beloved sister, Deana Neely Combs, and her husband, Robert. The bonds of family extended to his cherished niece, Angela Hall, her husband, Joseph, and his nephew, Robert Wesley Combs III, along with his wife, Katherine. John reveled in the role of uncle and later, as a step-grandfather and step-great-grandfather.
