John "Nie" H. Dillon

November 1, 1931 - February 8, 2025

John H. “Johnnie” Dillon Sr., 93, of Martinsville, Virginia, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, February 8, 2025. Born November 1, 1931, in Patrick County, Virginia, he was the son of the late Frank Williams Dillon and Mary Hutcherson Dillon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lillian M. Dillon, his brothers James W. Dillon and Pete Dillon, and his sisters Maggie Ruth Dillon, Lucy Dillon Moore, and Nancy Dillon Cruise.

John honorably served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Following his military service, he dedicated 23 years and 9 months to the Virginia Department of Corrections, retiring as a Correctional Officer at Camp 28. A man of deep faith, he was a devoted member of Hillcrest Baptist Church, always willing to serve his church and community. He was also an active member of the Spencer Ruritan Club, where he dedicated much of his time to supporting the club’s mission.

John found great joy in fishing and was a loyal New York Yankees fan. More than anything, he cherished time spent with his family, friends, church family, and community, embodying a true servant’s heart in all he did.

Left to cherish his memory are his son, John H. Dillon, Jr., of Martinsville, Virginia; his daughter, Deborah Dillon, of Martinsville, Virginia; his granddaughter, Sara Moore, of Ridgeway, Virginia; his great-grandson, Phoenix Moore; and a host of extended family and dear friends.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at 12:00 PM at Hillcrest Baptist Church, with Pastor Randy Aldridge officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Old Well Christian Church Cemetery.
