John Richard Inge

John Richard Inge, age 82 of Chatham, Virginia passed away Saturday, April 19, 2025 at SOVAH Health in Danville, Virginia. Richard was born August 13, 1942 in Pittsylvania County to the late Annie Elizabeth Scruggs Inge and the late Norman Arthur Inge. He was married to the late Elizabeth Mitchell Inge.

Richard was of the Christian faith and was retired from the Virginia Department of Forestry. He was a life member of the Chatham Volunteer Fire Department, serving as past assistant chief. He was also a life member and the past Captain of the Chatham Rescue Squad. He proudly served in the National Guard, was past assistant town manager for the Town of Chatham, as well as serving as a part-time police officer.

He is survived by one sister, Cindy I. Gibson (Darrell); his brothers-in-law, Roger Mitchell, and Leon Mitchell (Treva); his sisters-in-law, Sandra Mitchell and Christine Mitchell; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his beloved wife and his parents, he was also predeceased by two sisters, Betty I. Hamlett and Marie I. Reynolds; and three brothers-in-law, G.B. Reynolds, Hugh Mitchell, and Godfrey Mitchell.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday, April 23, 2025, 2:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Burial Park with Minister Curtis English officiating. A visitation will be held Tuesday, April 22, 2025 from 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Norris Funeral Service, Chatham Chapel, 147 S. Main Street, Chatham, Virginia. At other times the family will receive friends and family at the residence of his sister-in-law, Sandra Mitchell.
