John Robert Prater

John “Knuckle Head” Robert Prater, 65, of Bassett, Virginia passed away on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at SOVAH Martinsville Hospital. He was born in Martinsville on February 8, 1958, to the late Billie Jack, Sr. and JoAnne Marie Lemons Prater.He grew up in the Bassett Church of God and attended J.D. Bassett High School. He loved to do woodworking (where he could build anything), shooting pool, to hunt, played spoons. In his earlier years he played football and loved the 49ers. And he loved his nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Stanley Prater.He is survived by his sister, Deborah Trent (Chuck); brothers, Billie Jack Prater, Jr., Earnest W. Prater (Tammy), and Joseph C. Prater (Lynn); sister-in-law, Vicki Prater; and numerous nieces and nephews.A visitation will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2023, from 11:00-12:00 in the chapel of Wright Funeral Service.
