John Spencer Martin

John Spencer Martin, 81, of Bassett, Virginia, passed away Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at his residence. He was born April 16, 1943, in Spencer, Virginia, to the late Charlie E. Martin and Lindy A. Martin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Curtis Joel Martin, Dewey Martin, Charlie Martin, three sister, Nana Hardy, Lillian Dillon, and Dorris Moore.

John was a member of Old Well Christian Church and frequently attended Hill Crest Baptist Church with his family. He had a passion for working on cars and worked for the City of Martinsville for over thirty years. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing and golfing. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his loving wife of sixty years, Gloria S. Martin; one son, Clarence James Martin (Freda); two grandchildren, Matthew Fulcher (Melissa) and Brandon James Martin (Chasity); two great grandchildren, Skyler Martin and Kyndal Martin; one brother, Walter Martin (Louise); and a host of other family members and friends.

The funeral service will be held Thursday, February 6, 2025, at 12:00 PM at Bassett Funeral Service with Reverend Doug Ramsey officiating. The visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Roselawn Burial Park.
