John William Snyder
Reverend John William Snyder Jr. passed peacefully on Sunday, June 8th 2025 at the age of 90 surrounded by two of his four loving children, Brian and Darrin. Brian took care of his needs for many years, and Darrin stood vigil at his bedside in the last few days of his life. He worked hard his entire life, and his body was still remarkably strong in his final days. Dementia had taken his mind dramatically since late November of 2024, though he had been showing signs and fighting that battle for a number of years. Nearly three years ago, John’s children, along with their mother Leoney, joined together to care for him and continue to give the comfort of his home for as long as possible, as was his wish.
In his youth, John was a weightlifter, soldier, conductor on the railroad, handyman, and preacher. And through those things, one of the greatest gifts he gave his children was a respect for solid work ethic, and service to others.
John was preceded in death by his beloved parents John Sr. and Cammie, as well as his brothers Rufus, James, Bobby, Dennis and Donnie, and sister Marie.
Left to honor his memory are his children Jeff (Karen), Brian (Roxanne), Darrin and Suzette. And grandchildren Toni, Riley (Parker), Landon, Grant (Hailey), and Aubrey.
Our family would like to thank Pastor Ben Peyton for coming to pray at his bedside, and put dad’s hand on the word of God once again. Our family has a long history with the Peyton’s as Ben’s father, Harry, ordained our father into the ministry many years ago.
We would also like to thank the many caregivers and medical professionals who looked after our father’s needs. The Veterans Affairs Administration hospital in Salem, and their units in the Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit, along with Palliative Care and Hospice. The Davis McDaniel Veterans Care Center looked after dad in the last six months. The family will have a private ceremony at a later date.
As he was leaving this Earth to meet our Father in Heaven, our family feels certain he left one last message for us.
Dad passed at 3:16.
