Johnny R. Simpson

Johnny R. Simpson, 72, of Roanoke, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, November 16, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard “John” and Ruby Beckner Simpson; sisters, Joyce Simpson Myers, Janet Simpson Wilkerson, Elizabeth Kay Simpson Carroll; brothers, William Carroll Simpson and Danny Lee Simpson; nephews, Austin Brian Carroll and Brent Jacob Carroll.

Johnny was a graduate of Jefferson High School and retired from Roanoke County Schools. He was a longtime devoted member & Elder at Belmont Presbyterian Church.  He was very devoted to his church and was constantly looking for opportunities for the church to reach out and help those in the community.  He was also involved with the City Rescue Mission and the Special Olympics.  

Johnny is survived by nieces, Jobie Myers Batts (Billy), and Ronda Nelson (Ty); nephews Troy Wilkerson (Christy), Cory Carroll (Ashton), Billy Simpson (Diane), and Stephen Simpson; great niece, Katie Wilkerson; great nephews, Hunter Batts and Bennett Carroll; brother-in-law, Wayne Wilkerson; sister-in-law, Harue Simpson; his beloved dog Buck; as well as church family members and friends too numerous to mention.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials in Johnny’s name to Belmont Presbyterian Church.

Funeral services will be held  2:00 p.m. Monday, November 25, 2024  at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road Chapel with Pastor Todd Atkins officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday, November 24, 2024 from 6-8 pm at Simpson Funeral Home. Private interment will be in King Family Cemetery.
