Joyce Ann Hoke Forbes

Joyce Ann Hoke Forbes, age 78, of 315 Clearwater Drive, Covington, Virginia, died on Monday, November 17, 2025 at The Springs Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Hot Springs.

Joyce was born on November 10, 1947 in Alleghany County, Virginia to the late Glen Newton Hoke and Ruby Ann Simmons Hoke Walton. She was a nursing assistant at The Brian Center in Low Moor and a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Roanoke. Joyce was an animal lover.

Joyce was preceded by her mother, Ruby Ann Walton and her step father, Leonard Arlington Walton; her father, Glen Newton Hoke; her husband, George Alton Forbes, Sr., and her son, George Alton Forbes, Jr.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Nina and Jerry Jeffries of Covington; four half-sisters, Bonnie Hoke Hepler, Debbie Hoke Rogers, Jeanette Hoke Brummer, and Faye Hoke Smith; a granddaughter, Olivia Brooke Price; a number of nieces and nephews; and special cousins, Becky Hoke Sheffield and George “Buzzy” Tucker.

In keeping with her wishes, her body has been cremated. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 20, 2025 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Pastor John Ballard officiating. The family will visit with friends on Thursday afternoon at Nicely Funeral Home, from 1:00 PM until the time of service.
