Joyce Steuart Riner

August 1, 1936 - January 17, 2025

Joyce Steuart Riner, a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away on January 17, 2025.

Born on August 1, 1936, in Lynchburg, Virginia, she dedicated her life to her family, community, and church.

Joyce was actively involved in numerous community clubs and was a cherished member of Grace Baptist Church. She was also a charter member of Madison Heights Christian Church. Her love for writing led her to document many accounts of her life and family, leaving behind treasured memories for her loved ones.

Joyce married her high school sweetheart, Robert Lee Riner, and they enjoyed 61 wonderful years together. She was known for her calm personality and kindred spirit. As a young adult, Joyce worked at Montague Betts Steel Company before becoming a stay-at-home mother. She also ran a daycare from her home and later worked at the Central Virginia Training Center, where she eventually retired. In her later years, Joyce cherished the care and devotion provided by her granddaughters, who lovingly attended to her daily needs.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred William and Ethel Glass Steuart, her husband, Robert Lee Riner, and her daughter, Joy Lee Riner. She is survived by her daughter, Cheree Taylor (Scott), her granddaughters, Sophia Taylor and Stormy Taylor, and Stormy's boyfriend, Aaron Adcock, as well as her special caregiver, Rillie Bryant.

Funeral services for Joyce will be held on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Whitten Monelison Chapel in Madison Heights, Virginia, with Pastor Adam Staton officiating. Family and friends are invited to a visitation one hour prior to the service, starting at 12:00 PM. A private graveside service will follow on Friday, January 24, 2025, at Fort Hill Memorial Park in Lynchburg.
