Joyce Wishnevsky Surber

Joyce Wishnevsky Surber, 76, of Collinsville, Virginia, passed away on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at Carilion Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, Virginia. She was born on March 29, 1949, in West Virginia to the late Frank Wishnevsky and Edith Perkins Coleman. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved son, Steven Surber.

Joyce earned her LPN degree from Patrick Henry Community College and dedicated 30 years of service to Martinsville & Henry County Memorial Hospital before retiring. She loved spending time with her family and friends, enjoyed shopping, and rarely missed an episode of Wheel of Fortune or Jeopardy.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Crystal Hairston; six grandchildren, Devonte Moore, Darius Hairston, Hannah Surber, Ashton Hairston, Madison Surber, and Aliyah Hairston; two brothers, Johnny Wishnevsky and Freddy Wishnevsky; along with other cherished family members and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 24, 2025, at the Bassett Funeral Service Chapel, with Pastor Jason Callahan officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Roselawn Burial Park.
