Judith "Judy" Presson Anderson
Judith Presson Anderson, age 83 of Rocky Mount, formerly of Falls Church, Virginia, passed peacefully with her family by her side January 27, 2026. She was born to the late John and Louise Presson of Richmond, Virginia in 1942. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Carl Anderson; and her son, Michael Anderson.Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Robert (Tiffanee) and Eric (Heather) Anderson; she is also survived by her grandchildren, William (Hannah) Campbell, Paige Judith and Caleb Anderson. Judy and her husband Carl enjoyed supporting their children’s wide array of interests and were faithful to attend their events. This tradition continued with their grandchildren. Having moved to Rocky Mount in their retirement, they relished time spent with Paige and Caleb in play as well as celebrating and being a part of any accomplishment or recognition big or small.Judy graduated from Mary Washington College and started a decades long career in education. She enjoyed teaching secondary journalism and English before pausing her career to raise a family. She returned to education as an elementary instructional assistant when her youngest son started school. She retired from the Fairfax County Public School system in 2012. She was awarded “Support Employee of the Year” in 2001, also earning numerous awards for publications her students produced.Judy was a faithful member of Graham Road United Methodist Church and Rocky Mount United Methodist Church. She enjoyed participating in the life of the church, especially with the United Women in Faith. She had a servant’s heart and volunteered in many aspects of church leadership and missions. She never forgot shut-ins and was faithful to send cards and small gifts, especially to residents at The Hermitage in Roanoke.Judy had a variety of interests. She enjoyed reading and being a member of a local book club. She loved words in general and could often be found working a word search puzzle. She appreciated the fine arts and supported these in a variety of ways. She enjoyed attending plays and programs with friends; enjoyed painting and participated in local art classes; and she was a member of the Bald Knob Artist’s Society. Judy loved music as well and played the piano in her younger years. In her later years, she enjoyed attending church and community concerts. She often had classical music playing in the background when at home. Judy also enjoyed shopping trips adding to her collections of holiday and home décor which made the events she hosted even more memorable.In her retirement, her primary focus was being a caregiver to her husband Carl through his battle with a rare progressive neurological disorder called Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP). After his death, her servant’s heart found fulfillment in volunteer opportunities with The Henry Fork Service Center and the Free Clinic of Franklin County. Judy used her gift of words and beautiful handwriting to write thank you notes for these organizations’ donors.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Henry Fork Service Center, the Free Clinic of Franklin County, or Rocky Mount United Methodist Church. The family would like to thank the care teams at Franklin and Roanoke Memorial Hospitals and Carilion Hospice for their dignified care. Judy, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend to many will be greatly missed. She was always just a phone call or text away.A memorial service will be held at Rocky Mount United Methodist Church 11 a.m. Thursday, January 29, 2026. Her family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
