Judith Milne Furr

May 12, 1943 - February 28, 2026

Our dear Mom, Judith Milne Furr, age 82, of Blacksburg, passed away on February 28, 2026. She was born in Providence, Rhode Island, on May 12, 1943. Judy was a devoted mother, grandmother, sibling and friend. She loved unconditionally, possessed a wonderful sense of humor, and had a true gift for listening. Her family and friends could always count on her to listen patiently when they wanted to vent their frustrations or share their joys. Her humor and wisdom helped us keep things in perspective. Judy raised her children in Northern Virginia (moving to Blacksburg later in life, in 2002). She embraced her job as mother and homemaker with joy and passion. While her first priority was always her children, whom she had with Bud (Warwick) Furr, she also shared her many talents with her community. She worked as a preschool teacher, and she ran two businesses with dear friends – an antiques shop and a wallpaper hanging company. In her free time, Judy especially enjoyed being out in her yard, creating beautiful garden spaces – havens for birds and other pollinators. Judy had a warm and generous spirit. Her wide, welcoming smile made her a natural as a greeter at her beloved Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Blacksburg. She enjoyed her time volunteering at the Blacksburg Interfaith Food Pantry and Fairview Home in Pulaski as well. She made new friends wherever she lived – most recently her Blacksburg neighbors, church friends and her Monday Mahjong group – and she was always ready to drop everything to give a ride or lend a helping hand. Judy cherished her family. She maintained close relationships with her siblings though they lived far apart. Over the last year, she looked forward to their monthly Zoom get togethers. She enjoyed keeping in touch over the phone with her Colorado and Washington State children and grandchildren. During her 23 years in Blacksburg, she lived with her daughter Amy and son-in-law Dan, and helped raise their three children. Judy is survived by her three siblings, Meredith Roos, of Cincinnati, OH, Andrea Delkeskamp, of La Brea, CA, and Stephen Milne, of Falls Church, VA; her three children, Timothy (Connie) Furr, of Lynden, WA, Stephen Furr (Tracy Johnson) of Golden, CO, and Amy (Dan) Stilwell of Blacksburg; and her seven grandchildren, Jamie, Ryan, Ben, Sage, Ellie, Nick and David. She lost her sweet son Peter at age four – and we rejoice in the knowledge that she is joyfully reunited with him at last. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Blacksburg Interfaith Food Pantry. A Celebration of Life for Judy will be held at a later date.
