Judy R. Clingenpeel
Judy Richardson Clingenpeel, age 82 of Boones Mill, VA died peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday, June 5, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and her husband, Glenn. Judy was born in the Riner Community on December 7, 1941 to Oakley and Mildred Richardson. Judy’s older brothers, OJ, Bill and Larry were already grown by the time she was born. She and her little sister were playmates to each other and developed a sweet bond they have enjoyed their whole lives.
She graduated from Auburn High School in 1960 and married Glenn Clingenpeel June 11, 1966. Glenn and Judy welcomed their baby boy Patrick in December of 1968. Judy became very active in the Antioch Church of the Brethren teaching Sunday School, quilting and being a member of the women’s fellowship. Her favorite things to do were to make crafts for the hunger auction and set up the Chrismon Tree every year. Judy was a gifted and talented person. She spent many enjoyable hours on craft projects and beautiful needlework, her specialty was making angels. She loved giving angels to her family and friends.
Judy would tell you that out of everything she has crafted, her family is what made her most proud. With a stitch of love here, a dollop of patience there and a thimbleful of sass she crafted a family; woven together with the threads of love, kindness and humility. Whether watching TV with her grandchildren, playing with her grandson or telling the girls not to wear ripped jeans, this is what she enjoyed the most.
Judy is survived by her loving son, Patrick; four grandchildren, Katie, Meredith, Chloe and Stephen. Also surviving are her sister, Janet Shelburne, and her sister-in-law, Margaret Richardson; nieces and nephews, Sandra Brunner, Kathy Bunn (Doug), Marsha Pack (Butch), Rhonda Richardson, Lance Richardson (Tara), Suzanne Shelburne (Giovanni), Emily Stanton and Howie Stanton (Kate) along with many more great-nieces, nephews and other family members. Another family was also blessed to have Judy as honorary Matriarch. Judy and Lyndsey spent many Fridays at the hair salon and shopping together. They took care of each other and each other’s family.
Judy will be missed by Lyndsey and Mark; her honorary grandchildren, Jon-drea, Isobella, Markie, Halley, Camdyn, Devon, Saxony and her favorite Dr. and Nurse Aubrielle and Saylor and Bear the dog, also many other friends and members of Antioch Church.
Funeral services will be held at Antioch Church of the Brethren 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 15, 2024 with Pastor Andy Duffy officiating. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery. Her family will receive friends Friday from 6-8 p.m. at Antioch Church. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
