Julie Delilah Tomlin

September 21, 1963 - June 5, 2025

Julie Delilah Tomlin, 61, of Amherst, passed away Thursday, June 5, 2025 in her home, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Lynchburg, September 21, 1963, Julie was the daughter of the late Gordon Fredrick and Grace Naomi Painter Tomlin. She had formerly served as a waitress, school bus driver and factory worker with Dana Corporation in Buena Vista.

Julie’s life, after a major blockage in her heart at 33 years old, was a miracle. In a little over 28 years, she defied medical science, had her heart “restarted” multiple times and flat lined numerous times. She certainly saw signs, miracles and wonders, shared with others her story, and encouraged them to believe God for deliverance, sometimes in spite of impossible odds. She gave herself to helping others, including nursing many through their illnesses.

Julie truly loved attending bluegrass festivals and concerts with her family and numerous friends. She enjoyed gardening, canning and crafting. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her infant brother Orman Fredrick Tomlin and sister-in-law, Mary Anne Tomlin.

Julie is survived by her daughter, Carla Edwards; son, Josey Edwards; brothers: Ronald Tomlin and Terry Tomlin (Jenny); sisters: Loretta Tomlin, Debbie Tomlin, and Susan Bryant (Judson “Bug”) and two grandchildren: Kensley and Kaleb Waltz; and a special foster-sister, Tammy Bryant Wilson.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Monday, June 9, 2025 at Driskill Funeral Chapel, 201 Grandview Drive, Amherst. Interment will follow in Mount Pleasant United Church Cemetery, 650 Thrashers Creek Road, Amherst. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.

Julie’s family extends heartfelt thanks to staff at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital Cardiac Care, UVA Medical Center Cardiac Care and LVAD Units, Centra Home Health Care and Centra Hospice Care for the exceptional care she received. Thanks also to family and friends who helped during her last years.
