Karen Sue Kingery

Karen Sue Kingery, 58, of Salem, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, as a result of an automobile accident. Born in Roanoke, Virginia on November 4, 1958, to the late Walter and Gladys Fay Hodges, she is also preceded in death by a grandson, Mason James Kingery.

Always a snacker, Karen loved baking and making desserts – and they were delicious! She enjoyed sewing and especially crochet and made beautiful afghans and blankets for family and friends. Karen loved watching Lifetime movies and never missed her afternoon soaps on television. She loved dogs and absolutely adored her dachshunds, Jack and Rosie.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Amanda Kingery (Nathan) and Ashley Kingery; grandchildren, Miranda, Trinity, Tessa, and Mason; brother, Donnie Hodges; as well as her special friend, Elizbeth Hatfield.

The family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to the Fort Lewis Volunteer Fire Department and the emergency department of Lewis Gale Medical Center for their heroic rescue efforts. Also special thanks to Karen’s friend Deidre for finding an interpreter to allow Karen’s fellow hearing-impaired friends to hear to the service.

Services will be held on Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, Salem.

Interment will immediately follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. Friends and family are invited to attend a visitation one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
