Location: Endicott, VA

Husband: Willard Wayne Compton

Daughter: Layne Compton Harrison

Son-in-law: David Wayne Harrison

Brother: Haywood “Louie” Scott

Sister: Jean S. Dennis

Attended and Graduated: Martinsville High School 1951

While in high school she worked part-time at Burroughs White car dealership. After graduation she became full-time there.

After graduation she and her girlfriends loved to go to “Spooky Hollow” (a place in Eden North Carolina where teens went to dance back in the day). They loved to go roller skating a Fred’s Skate Land. They would also go to the ice cream stand on River Hill where teens hung out and that’s where she met her husband, Wayne Compton. They married in 1955.

One year later they had a baby daughter, Judith Layne.

Kathleen continued her career at Burroughs White even through the company’s transition to Bob White’s Chevyland. She served as Office Manager and later also served as Secretary and Treasurer as well.

She worked there for 48 years before retiring.

Kathleen was a loving wife, mother, daughter, and sister. She was devoted to her family and affectionately known as “Sista”. Everyone else called her Kat.

She was a good cook. She was famous for her potato salad. It was requested at ALL family gatherings and reunions.

The Scott family reunions were famous for lots of good food and bluegrass music. You could find her out there flat footing with the best of them.

Growing up, Layne remembers a home full of love, happiness, music and dancing. She and her mom would watch movie musicals together and sing and dance along.

One of those movies was “White Christmas” starring Bing Crosby, Rosemary Clooney, and Vera Ellen. Occasionally, she and Jeannie would sing “Sisters sisters there were never such devoted sisters.” And that was certainly true!!

Sista had taken care of Jeannie when she was a young girl and Jeannie took care of Sista in her later years.

During her final years, unable to move much, she took to her recliner and loved watching John Wayne movies and Matt Dillion in Gunsmoke.

Scripture Ecclesiastes 3:4 reminds us: There is a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; It is her time to dance again. Our sweet beloved Sista is dancing with the angels!

Dancing With Angels

Dancing with angels,

high in the Heavens,

hearing their harps,

as music fills the air.

Never leaving me alone,

assuring me of their love,

while dancing round in Heaven,

circled in God's love.
