Kay Slayton Parrish
Kay Slayton Parrish, 71 of Callands, Virginia, went to be with the Lord on December 13, 2024, at Duke University Hospital after a prolonged illness, surrounded by her family. She was born on April 29, 1953 to the late Garnett Wayne Slayton and Gloria Mae Marshall Slayton.
She is survived by her devoted husband of over 50 years, James Dandridge (Danny) Parrish, her daughters, April Parrish Blair (Jay), and Ashley Elizabeth Parrish (Omar Martinez), granddaughters Olivia Ray Blair, Chloe Elizabeth Martinez, Charlotte Danielle Blair, and grandson Nathaniel James (Nate) Martinez. Kay is also survived by sisters Sheila S. Hutson (Odell), Jeanie S. Holley (Buddy), Ronda S. Dalton, Amy R. Slayton, Andrea S. Hodge, Chrissy S. Toliver, and brother Gerald W. Slayton, special, faithful sister-in-law Priscilla Parrish Merricks, sister-in-law Janet Parrish Montgomery, as well as niece Andrea Merricks Holley (Donald), and over 17 nieces and nephews, as well as special cousin Angie Dalton.
Kay began her life in the Dry Fork community and was a member of Emmanuel Pentecostal Holiness Church. Upon marriage she resided the remainder of her years in Callands, and later became a member of Liberty Baptist Church. Kay was a caring and compassionate nurse for over 40 years working in many departments at Danville Regional Medical Center, Children's Healthcare, Riverside Health, Primecare, and finishing her career at Chatham Family Medical Center.
The family would like to give special thanks to the nurses and entire staff at Roman Eagle Rehabilitation and Healthcare for their kindness and thoughtful care during her stay, as well as the nurses and staff at Duke University Hospital for their kindness and generous attention given to her and her family.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 17th at 2:00 at Norris Funeral Home , Mt. Hermon Chapel located at 3995 Franklin Turnpike, Danville, Virginia. Visitation will be held prior to the service at 1:00 pm, officiated by Reverend Daryl Joyce, with a graveside burial at Highland Burial Park. In addition, donations in her memory can be made to Liberty Baptist Church.
