Kermit Haston Payne

Kermit Haston Payne, 80, of Spencer, Virginia, entered his heavenly home Monday, February 10, 2025. He was born February 4, 1945, in Henry, Virginia, to the late Clarence Haston Payne and Gertrude Horton Payne.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Hazel P. Merriman, Peggy Payne, Linda P. Blankenship; Brenda Payne; brothers, Eldridge Payne and John Curtis Payne.

He was of the Christian faith and attended Mountain View Pentecostal Holiness Church. He worked 15 years for the City of Martinsville, but loved working on the farm with cattle and gardening. His favorite restaurant was Kentucky Fried Chicken. He deeply loved his family and before his passing, Kermit expressed his great love for his dear wife and for his son, John D. Eames.

He is survived by his wife of over 56 years, Bettie Huff Payne; son, John D. Eames (Tammy); sisters, Lorene Freeman, Carolyn Chilton, Elezabeth Flemings; brothers, Ralph Payne, Micky Payne, Ricky Payne; grandchildren, Chris Dillon, Emily Williams, and Allison Eames.

A graveside service will be held Friday, February 14, 2025, at 3:00 PM at Patrick Memorial Gardens, 20937 Jeb Stuart Hwy., Stuart VA, 24171.
