Laverne Hudgins Robinette

June 26, 1931 - March 8, 2024

Mae LaVerne Hudgins Robinette, 92, went to sleep and woke up in Arms of Jesus on March 8, 2024. Mrs. Robinette was born June 26, 1931, in Danville, VA to the late Edgar and Virginia M Smith Hudgins Yeatts. She was predeceased by the love of her life A.F. (Bobby) Robinette in 2020, her sister Barbara Dale Hudgins and her brother James (Jim) Hudgins.

She graduated from George Washington High School in 1950. She married (Bobby) Robinette on June 17, 1950. They honeymooned at Myrtle Beach, SC, which began a love of the seashore for them that stayed with them through the many years they were together.

In June of 1952. a daughter, Susan Gail (Gary Owen) was born. In September of 1954 a son, Steven

V. was born. In August of 1962 a daughter, Sherri L. (Gerry Howard) was born. The family was then complete.

Laverne was a member of North Main Baptist since 1962. She believed deeply in the power of prayer and was Prayer Coordinator for 9 years, she developed the Intercessory Prayer Ministry and was involved in the Bereavement Ministry. During her time there, she taught Sunday School to all age groups, the last being the Ruth Class, She loved each and everyone of those ladies, and can’t wait to meet with them again to praise our Lord!

After raising her family, she worked part-time at Sears and Full-time at Dan River Outlet store until she retired. She was a talented seamstress and artist, making flags for friends and the church, and beautiful paintings for family and friends. She also loved to knit and knitted every day until just before she died.

She loved her family greatly and her deepest desire was they have a personal relationship with Jesus, whom she loved, and sought to be a testimony of His love before them and others.

LaVerne is also survived by her grandchildren, Jason Owen (Deidre), Heather Owen (Bob), Justin Owen (Ana), Chris Summers (Amanda), Brian Robinette (Chelsea), Sharon Howard Glare, Garrison Howard and Delaney Howard. Great grandchildren, Samuel, Annika, and Jonathan Clark. Kris and Olivia Summers, Evangeline (Evie) Owen. Julie and Amelie Owen, Austin and Ethan Robinette.

She was living in Richmond Virginia, with her daughter Sherri at the time of her death.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, March 15, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. at North Main Baptist Church, 2818 North Main Street, Danville, VA with Pastor Fred Ungar officiating.
