Laverne Pendleton Combs

Laverne Pendleton Combs, 90, of Virginia, passed away on Thursday, December 19, 2024If there was one thing that Laverne was known for it was her infectious laugh (which was lovingly called chicken cackling). You could be turned the other way, hear that laugh and know instantly who it was. Her nickname growing up was “Boots” because her father would be asked many times if he would buy her cowboy boots. Laverne loved dancing, especially at the moose lodge. She was also a huge lover of country music, specifically George Straight. The one thing she was not a fan of was the sun. Family will tell you that if she was outside, you would not see her without her infamous sunglasses.She is preceded in death by her loving husband, James Combs; second husband, Basiel Smith; parents, Spencer Pendleton and Ida Pendleton; sister, Edna Mills; brother-in-law, John Mills; ex-husband, Nelson Foutz.Laverne is survived by her children, Gary Foutz (Sherry), Lynne Lusk, Anthony Smith (Kristi); granddaughter, Stephanie Hicks (Brad); great-granddaughters, Lindsie Hicks and Bristol Hicks; special friends, Katie and her family; along with multiple nieces and nephews.In Lieu of flowers, the family asks that loved ones make donations to the SPCA Foundation.The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 26, 2024, from 1pm to 3pm at Lotz Funeral Home Roanoke, 1001 Franklin Road SW Roanoke, VA 24016Graveside Service will be held Friday, December 27, 2024, at 10am at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, 5731 Airport Road NW, Roanoke, VA, 24012.Online condolences may be made at www.lotzfuneralhomeroanoke.com.
