Lawrence Elbert Markham
Lawrence Elbert Markham, 88, of Salem, VA, passed away on Tuesday, December 20, 2022. Born on June 22, 1934, to the late Robert and Ethel Markham in Arcadia, VA. He was a long-time member of Salem Baptist Church, having served in various roles as a faithful servant. He retired from VDOT after forty years of service. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Evelynn (Leslie) Powell; and four brothers, Raymond E. (Louise) Markham, Buford Markham, B.L. “Bunky” Markham, and Melvin Lee (Hilda) Markham.
He is survived by his wife of forty-two years, Linda Hodges Markham; daughter, Mendy Flynn; two grandchildren, Kassie (Ian) Dickson, and Brandon Cudworth; two great-grandchildren, Owen, and Charlotte Dickson; brother, C.W. “Wilbert” (Peggy) Markham; sister-in-law, Dana Markham; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. noon on Friday, December 23, 2022, at Salem, Baptist Church, 103 N. Broad St., Salem, VA 24153 with Dr. Heath Rickmond officiating. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem, VA, where military honors will be rendered by the U.S. Army.
Friends may visit with the family from 11 a.m. until the hour of the service at the church.
