Lawrence H. Wright, age 75, of Blacksburg, Virginia passed away Wednesday, July 5th at his home surrounded by members of his family. He was born in Allentown, Pennsylvania on March 3, 1948, to Henry Calvin Wright and Gloria Virginia Wright. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Anne M. Wright; two daughters, Marcia A. Parks and her husband Jeffrey L. Parks and Allison L. Kruckow; five grandchildren, Byron J. Parks, Zachary L. Swartzwelder, Heidi A. Swartzwelder, Payton E. Kruckow and Avery J. Kruckow; a sister, Phyllis D. Somerville of Sandy Springs, Georgia as well as four nephews and two nieces. Larry enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1968. He served in Vietnam, from June 1969 – June 1970. During that time period, he was awarded the Medal of Valor. He graduated from Robert Morris College in 1977 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. In 2014, he retired from a 43-year career in banking, serving banks in both Pennsylvania and Maryland. Larry was Senior Vice President and Bank Director of Maryland Bank and Trust Company from 1994 until the Bank merged with Old Line Bank (now WesBanco) in April of 2011. He continued to work for Old Line Bank until he officially retired in April of 2014. Larry was active in the United Way of Charles County and served as President for several terms. He was an active member of the Waldorf Chapter of Kiwanis. In November 2004, at the 25th Anniversary Celebration of the Kiwanis Club of Waldorf he received the George Hixon Fellow Award. In 2008, Larry was named the Charles County Good Scout of the Year. After his retirement, he enjoyed playing golf with his friends in the Old Fellows Golf Group in Blacksburg. He was a member of Blacksburg Country Club. His devotion to his family and love and adoration for his grandchildren was unsurpassed. The family will receive friends from 10:00 A.M. – 11:00 A.M. Friday, July 28, 2023, at McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Drive S.W., Blacksburg, VA. Funeral services will be held that same day at 4:00 P.M. at Blacksburg Presbyterian Church, 701 Church Street S.E., Blacksburg, VA. The Reverend Emily Rhodes Hunter will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
