Lecy Helen Duff
Lecy Helen Duff, 77, of Alexandria, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 9, 2026.
Born in Amherst County on September 28, 1948, she was the daughter of the late Finley D. Bowling and Ruth Fitzgerald Bowling.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Nelson King Duff, and her sister, Fronnie Mae Brown.
Lecy retired from the Department of Defense following a dedicated 37-year career. She was a member of Downtown Baptist Church in Alexandria.
She had a true zest for life and enjoyed staying active alongside her husband. Lecy loved playing bingo, playing cards and watching horse racing. She and Nelson spent many happy years together in a bowling league and enjoyed going dancing; on one memorable occasion they even won a dance competition. They were both lifelong members of the Moose Lodge. Above all, Lecy cherished her family and was known for her kind heart and very forgiving soul.
She is survived by two daughters, Lisa Renay Duff and Dawn Michelle Duff; one son, Nelson K. Duff, Jr. and his wife, Terry; her “adopted daughter,” Gail McCoole; one brother, Pedtitt D. Bowling and his wife, Brenda; one granddaughter, Victoria; one great-granddaughter, Katrina; her sister-in-law, Deborah Hensley and her husband Dave, and a number of other extended family members and friends.
A service celebrating her life and faith will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Monday, March 16, 2026, at Whitten Monelison Chapel with Cynthia Branham officiating. Interment will follow in Amherst Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 15, 2026, at Whitten Monelison Chapel.
Lecy will be remembered for her joyful spirit, her love of laughter and dancing, and the deep devotion she shared with her husband and family. Her forgiving heart and vibrant personality touched many lives, and the memories she created with those she loved will continue to be cherished for years to come.
