Lemuel Theford Spencer

Lemuel Theford Spencer, 97, of Bassett, Virginia, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, September 5, 2025. He was born on May 19, 1928, in Patrick County, Virginia, to the late Lemuel Wilbert Spencer and Ruth Tuggle Spencer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Edna Craig, Woodrow Spencer, Kenneth Spencer, Lawrence Spencer, Cecil Spencer, and Ilene Graham; and by one great-grandchild, Dustin West.

Lemuel proudly served in the United States Army. He was a faithful member of County Line Church of God of Prophecy. He enjoyed working outdoors, especially cutting trees and tending to his fruit trees, but his greatest joy was spending time with his family.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 73 and a half years, Ruth Catherine Wallace Spencer; two daughters, Vickie Spencer West (Hal) and Brenda Spencer Stone; four grandchildren, Jennifer West Jones (Jesse), Scott West (Kim), Michael Harris, and Timothy “Dale” Harris; great-grandchildren, Leah Jones Moore, Devin Jones (Taylor), Dylan Jones, Drayden Jones, Landri Jones, Annabel Harris, Emily Harris, Alaina West, Kaylin West, and Connor West; great-great-grandchildren, Lindy Moore, Dawson Moore, and Harper Jones; and great-great-great-grandchild, Lemuel Adkins; other family members and friends.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 12, 2025, at 12:00pm at County Line Church of God of Prophecy with Pastor Jason Callahan officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
