Lessie Marie Hairston

Lessie Marie Hairston, 77, of Martinsville, Virginia, transitioned from her earthly home Saturday, April 26, 2025. She was born September 29, 1947, in Draper, North Carolina, to the late Roy Moyer and Rosie Lee Martin Moyer.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband, Manuel Lee Hairston; sisters, Etta Lee Broadnax and Shirley Temple Murphy; and brother, Roy Moyer, Jr.

Lessie was a devoted woman of faith who attended Crosspoint Church and lived her life in close relationship with the Lord. She was deeply committed to daily Bible reading and prayer, often lifting up others in heartfelt prayer, always willing to intercede on behalf of anyone in need. Her strong faith was the foundation of her life, and gentle spirit reflected the love of Christ. Lessie’s family held a very special place in her heart, and she cherished every moment spent with them. In her free time, she found joy in traveling, especially to Florida, and she loved relaxing by the beach, where she could enjoy the beauty of God’s creation. Her life was a testimony of love, faith, and compassion.

She is survived by her daughters, Gayle Spencer (Derrick), Doritta Hairston, and Leslie Harris (Scott); grandchildren, Seamonay Gilbert (Issac), Austin Tatum, LaToya Hairston, Danielle Martin, and Kiara Morrison; and ten great grandchildren.

A floating visitation will be held Friday, May 2, 2025, from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM, at Wright Funeral Service Chapel, 1425 Greensboro Road, Martinsville, Virginia 24112. Burial will be private.
