Lewis Bowling

March 8, 1940 - April 23, 2025

On Wednesday, April 23, 2025, Lewis Bowling, of Roanoke, VA went to be with Jesus Christ his Savior and Lord in his heavenly home. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was one of ten siblings. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oswald and Ocie Bowling, sister, Veta Whitt, brothers, Albert, Cephas, Jack, Dennis, Melvin and George Bowling as well as his former-wife, Gudrun (Maxey).

He graduated from Andrew Lewis High School and went on to attend and graduate from Virginia Tech with a Civil Engineering degree. He also served in the US Army after college. Lewis owned and operated a mechanical contracting company, Air-O-Matic, for many years until he retired.

Lewis is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Marie (Sledd) Bowling, two sons, Steve (Elaine) Bowling, Eric (Cindy) Bowling, two daughters, Lori (Landon) Robertson, and Lisa (Sean) Wimmer. Also surviving are many much loved grandsons and granddaughters, Reese Bowling, Riley Bowling, Maggie Bowling, and Luke Bowling, all of Richmond, Ava Bowling, Joshua Bowling, Nathaniel Bowling, also of Richmond. Other much-loved grandsons and granddaughters from the area are Dylan Lewis of Roanoke, and Aynslie and Camden Robertson of Rocky Mount.

Lewis is also survived by two sisters, Odrie Thurlo of Mocksville, NC and Nancee Lee of Moneta, VA, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends and family will gladly be received onFriday, May 2, 2025 from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at Faith Fellowship Church at 100 Wirtz Road, Wirtz, VA. A celebration of life service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Gary Hoffman officiating. Interment will follow at Franklin Memorial Park in Rocky Mount. A special thanks to the nurses, doctors, CNA’s and all involved from Roanoke Memorial Hospital and Friendship Health & Rehab Center South for the loving care that was given to Lewis while he was a patient there.
