Lilly Elizabeth Wade

Lilly G. Wade, 72, of Rocky Mount, Va. went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, from her residence.

She was born on October 24, 1951, daughter of the late Lafayette “Monk” and Thelma Frances Hale Gillespie. In addition to her parents, Lilly was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Roger Lee Wade Sr., and her brother, David Hale.

Lilly retired from the Virginia ABC Stores, mainly in Rocky Mount, as assistant store manager, with a total of 20 plus years of service. She truly enjoyed holiday meals with her family, where her cooking abilities shined. She had the best baked mac and cheese within 3 counties’, according to her loved ones. She was a feisty and spunky lady, even though she was only four foot eleven inches tall. Above anything in this world, she adored her grandkids, who knew her as “Mamaw.”

Family remaining to cherish her memory includes her children, Roger L. Wade Jr. (Amber), Jenny L. Burden (John), and Pamela Hendrickson; grandchildren, Ellett Underwood Jr., Tyler Underwood, Nicholas Atkins, Zane Burden, Zoe Burden, and Chloe Hendrickson; step-grandchildren, Rian Wheat, Haley Ferguson, Addison Wheat, Lealan Wheat, and Stephen StClair; step- great-granddaughter, Raley Wheat; nieces and nephews, Kim Flannagan, David Hale Jr., William T. Wade III, and Anna King.

A celebration of Lilly’s life will be conducted at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider contributions to assist with Ms. Wade’s services; made payable to Jenny L. Burden.
