Linda Fitzgerald Jenkins Obituary Linda Mae Fitzgerald Jenkins, 76 of Salem, Va., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 18, 2024. She was born in Waynesboro, Va. on Tuesday, November 25, 1947, to the late Hershey and Edna Reid Fitzgerald. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years, Lonnie Jenkins; sister, Dreama Hayes; brother, Hershey Fitzgerald Jr.; nephew, Shelburne Hayes; and her niece, Angela Jenkins. Linda held her family dear and was a loving mother, aunt, grandmother, and adopted mother to "her boys," which just happened to be all of Travis’s closest friends. Her love for children was exemplified beyond her own by her work as President of a local children’s charity for over 20 years that helped numerous children in the Roanoke Valley. She faithfully drove a bus for Salem City Schools for many years where numerous friendships were made. She was also employed for a local radio station as the office manager. In recent years, she started an annual beach trip with her girls where a lot of memories were made among them.Family remaining to cherish her memory include her son, Travis Jenkins; niece, Deirdre Manspile and husband, Don; grandson, Nicholas Manspile; numerous nieces and nephews; special friend, Tammy Miller; her snack-loving loyal K-9 companion, Milo; and Wesley Fitzkee who always held a special place in her heart. A celebration of Linda’s life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home chapel on, with Pastor Barry Fitzgerald officiating.
