Linda Wood Johnson
Linda Wood Johnson, 82, of Lynchburg passed away Monday, September 8, 2025, surrounded by those who loved her. She was the daughter of her late father Samuel Clark Wood; her late step-mother Eva Boswell Dickerson Wood and her late mother Ola Pierce Wood.
Linda, born March 19, 1943, dedicated more than 28 years of service as an Activity Aide at Central Virginia Training Center, where she brought joy, care, and compassion to those she served. Outside of work, she found happiness in simple pleasures like playing softball, fishing, and taking family vacations to Myrtle Beach. She especially cherished time with her granddaughters and great-grandson, who were the light of her life. Known for her quick wit and infectious laugh, Linda had a remarkable sense of humor that brightened every room. She lived with a servant’s heart, always putting others before herself. One of her fond memories was nearly becoming a finalist on the beloved dance show American Bandstand, a testament to her fun-loving spirit and zest for life. She lived with her son who, along with her daughter, lovingly cared for her over the last six years. Linda was a loving and caring woman, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents Linda was preceded in passing by her loving husband of 58 years, Earnest Carroll Johnson and her four siblings.
Those left to cherish Linda’s memory include her daughter, Teresa Johnson Francis and her husband David, of Forest; her son Michael Carroll Johnson of Lynchburg; her granddaughters Samantha J. Francis of Lynchburg and Devin Francis Burton and her husband Timmy, of Bedford Co.; her great grandson Deacon J. Burton; her brother in law Ray Johnson, of Piney River; her sister in law Sandra Johnson Weast, of Nelson Co.; her numerous nieces and nephews and long-time family friend Beverly Littlejohn, of Lynchburg with special consideration for her caretaker, Marilyn of Lynchburg.
The family would also like to thank the staff of Lynchburg General Hospital for their excellent care of Linda.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 11, 2025 from 5-7pm at Whitten Monelison Chapel.
