Lisa Moore McDowell
Lisa Moore McDowell, 57, passed away on December 22, 2024, the day after the winter solstice, from a world that was too dark and too cold for too long. Lisa was born on January 14, 1967, to her loving Parents Rosser Lee Moore and Judith Kay Moore, who both predeceased her. She is survived by her two sons, Lawrence Wesley Creasy II and Gilbert Houston McDowell, and a brother, Rosser Lee Moore II.
Mom devoted her life to taking care of others. This journey of making a livelihood out of caregiving began with her graduation from nursing school in 1994, maintaining a more than 30 career in healthcare, and never ceasing her education throughout her life. The learning and the growing was never done, and this applied to her personal life as well as professional.
Mom loved to travel, and in recent years she was making more of her dreams come true with trips all over the country. Her favorite place was and will always be the Outer Banks, where her family has shared so many wonderful memories, and ultimately a place where she will finally be able to rest.
Anyone that knew Lisa knew she was a powerhouse. With a sheer force of will and dedication that would outshine any professional athlete, her life was one of impact and resolve, unabashed love and adventure. The family will have to rely on the examples set by her devotion and fearlessness, alongside her Mother’s life of patience and understanding, as the mettle to somehow keep on moving.
The family has so many people to thank, and we will do so personally. There will be no service, but we ask that you hold on to a story of Lisa from your life so that we can share in the memories together when we share space together again.
Images of comfort are hard to come by at this time, but perhaps some joy could be found in the image I know Mom had of the room prepared for her in the next life: it would be Christmas morning in the Lansbury home, with all the extended McKinney family and our wonderful friends fathered in the living room, reunited again, sharing stories, laughs, and love. Mom would be surrounded by her Mama and Daddy once more, alongside Granny Katie and Papa, her greatest role models.
