Lonnie Rider

Mr. Lonnie Dan Rider, age 96, of Covington, died Saturday, May 11, 2024, at the Woodlands Nursing Home, Clifton Forge. He was the husband of the late Ruth Pierce Rider.
Mr. Rider was born November 23, 1927 in Neola, WV, the son of the late Oscar Rider and Almedia Dilley Rider. He served his country as a member of the United State Army where he was stationed in Panama during the Korean conflict. Mr. Rider was employed in sales and delivery by the Coca Cola Company and later was employed as a custodian at the Falling Spring School from 1989 until 1995. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting and was known for keeping busy and wanting to make sure everyone else was okay before himself. Mr. Rider was an active member of First Presbyterian Church Most of all, Lonnie loved spending time with his family.
Mr. Rider is survived by his granddaughter, Tracy Rider; three great grandchildren, Elizabeth Love, Vernon Love, Jr. and Helen Schrenk ; his siblings, Bertie Smith, Marie Karnes and Shelby Spahn; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Rider was preceded in death by a son, Lynn Rider; a daughter, Linda Stearrett Richmond; and his siblings, Winters Rider, Clemmit Armentrout, Lucy Rider, Nan Callan, Lake Rider, Aubrey Rider, Walter Rider and Sylvia Rider.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, May 16, 2024, from the chapel of Loving Funeral Home with Rev. Susan Ennis officiating. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 7:00 P.M. until 8:30 P.M. at Loving Funeral Home and at other times at the residence, 300 Lacks Avenue, Covington.
Pallbearers will be James "Cheeze" Smith, Scottie Rider, Elizabeth Love, Vernon Love, Jr., Helen Schrenk and Cory Fulk.
