Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Elise Spencer; six children, Daniel Spencer and wife, Cindy, Kristie Demoss and husband, Lawrence, Brett Spencer, Eric Spencer and wife, Maria, Danielle Brennecke and husband, Joel, and Nicole Kushman and husband, Jason. He was a loving and devoted grandfather “Bepa” to sixteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren.Dan led a very full life and had many passions, one being his Christian faith. He attended Northwest Christian College and earned a Bachelor of Theology degree in 1955. He sought out God’s wisdom in all that he did and often found Solomon, and wisdom texts credited to him in Scripture, to be very relatable. He spent most of his career working in construction as a Civil Engineer. Early in his career, he served as a missionary in Africa for several years building churches and schools; he had very fond memories with his young family and mission work.Dan and his wife, Elise, loved to go on new adventures. He was a devoted University of Oregon Ducks fan, having earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the institution in 1957. Later, he enrolled in Cal State Polytechnic College and earned a Bachelor of Science in Engineering in 1969. The accomplishment he was so very proud of, and second only to his family, was the book written about his life, entitled Wisdom, which was published in 2016. A brilliant and beautiful soul, Dan spent the past year of his life as a resident of Richfield Serenity Cottage Memory Care battling the ravages of dementia. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff of Richfield Serenity Cottage, especially his nurses and CNA’s for the care and kindness given to Dan this past year, as well as to Good Samaritan Hospice for the wonderful support and compassionate care they provided during the last months of his life. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that you consider making memorial donations to Good Samaritan Hospice; the link to donate can be found here.
