Louise Simmons Puryear
Louise Simmons Puryear of Salem, Virginia passed away on March 15. She was born on September 17, 1924 in Radford, Virginia to the late Ezra and Myrtle Simmons.
Louise was the beloved wife of the late William H. Puryear. She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia McConnell, son-in-law Richard McConnell, grandsons Robert McConnell (Nina Vujovic) and John McConnell (Rachael); by her daughter, Anne Cahill, son-in-law Steve Cahill, granddaughter Katie Billings (Alex) and grandson David Cahill (Soomi); and by her first cousin Sherri Case.
Louise graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in June, 1947 with a B.S. in Home Economics. She was the Director of Distributive Education at E.C. Glass High School in Lynchburg for four years, and a devoted wife and mother. She was a member of Peakland Baptist in Lynchburg and Salem Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the Lynchburg Women’s Club, president and member of the Lynchburg chapter of AAUW, the General James Breckenridge Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Roanoke Women’s Club.
A graveside service will be held at Sunset Cemetery in Christiansburg.
