Lucy Edmonds Stone

June 30, 1930 - November 13, 2024

Lucy Geneva Edmonds Stone of Bassett, VA went home to her Lord and Savior on November 13, 2024 at the age of 94.

She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Omer C. “Redpole” Stone, Jr., her father, Howard L. Edmonds, mother, Ila F. Edmonds, brothers; Richard L. Edmonds, Ray A. Edmonds, Charles H. Edmonds, Roy E. Edmonds and her sister, Frances E. Pilson.

Surviving are her daughters, Vickie S. Helmstutler (Barry) and Helen S. Boitnott (William), her grandsons; Randall D. Helmstutler (Tracy), Russell S. Boitnott and Peter E. Boitnott (Elizabeth) and great grandchildren, Owen E. and Evelyn R. Helmstutler and sister, Betty E. Leonard (Billy), special sister-in-law, Mona M. Edmonds (Ray) plus numerous nieces and nephews.

She worked beside her husband at North Bassett Café (Redpole’s) from the beginning of their marriage until their retirement. Prior to her marriage, she worked at a local drug store and went to Roanoke to learn about a cosmetic line. She often said, “I don’t sell cosmetics, they sell themselves!”.

She was a member of the Busy Bee Garden Club for many years, which is appropriate as she was always busy. Lucy loved bowling in the women’s league at the Bassett Community Center. She was a member of the Bassett Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and did mending for residents at the Stanleytown Health and Rehabilitation Center. She received the “Volunteer of the Year” award from the Woodmen of the World. She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church Bassett and a member of the Kingdom Seekers Sunday School class. She loved flowers, music and dancing. The Joy Group of First Baptist Church of Bassett was another highlight for her. The same goes for the Cabin Crew that she and her husband played UNO, cooked meals, listened to live bands and danced.

A special thank you goes out to: Traci Cassady, Lillie Cassady, Kathy & Woody Wright, Richard Edmonds, Jerry and Denise Belcher, the members of First Baptist Church Bassett for your thoughts, prayers, cards and visits. Lucy’s daughters could not have continued their care for her without you. The staff at Mulberry Creek Assisted Living and Mountain Valley Hospice was wonderful to Lucy. The family appreciates each of you beyond words. We pray that each of you receives many blessings.

In lieu of flowers, family suggest donations be made to Bassett Volunteer Fire Department or to First Baptist Church Bassett.

A Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2024 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Collins Funeral Home, 30 Riverside Hwy, Bassett, VA.

A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted on Sunday, November 17, 2024 at 2:30 PM at First Baptist Church Bassett with Reverend Doug Ramsey officiating. Interment will follow in the Mount Hermon Brethren Church Cemetery.
