It is with profound sadness to announce the passing of Lynne Marie Gekas. Born on March 19, 1952 at Garfield Hospital in Washington D.C., Lynne grew up in Rockville, Maryland, attended Richard Montgomery High School, and graduated from the University of Maryland in business. She worked for the Federal Government before having her three cherished children John, Kelly, and James (Jamey). Lynne will be remembered as a wonderful first grade teacher at Saint Anthony Catholic School in Washington D.C. and later at Saint Hugh in Greenbelt, Maryland. She was a dedicated teacher where her faith and compassionate spirit shone brightly, touching the hearts of countless children and colleagues.

Lynne was an avid reader and enjoyed cooking, crossword puzzles, the outdoors, and spending time with her family. But above all, she loved God. Her family and those who knew her will always remember Lynne this way, in Christ.

She is survived by her husband, James, of 46 years. They anchored their life in University Park, Maryland where they raised their children. Lynne is also survived by her dear sister Diana Crandall (Milt), brothers Stephen Mooty (Anong), David Mooty (Debbie), and Kenneth Mooty (Ivy Dill), son-in-law Noah Carlson, two grandchildren Henry and Luke, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends whose lives were touched by her kindness, generosity, and love.
