Mabel Ailene Cannaday Prillaman
Mabel Ailene Cannaday Prillaman, age 87 of Bassett, VA passed away Friday, July 18, 2025, surrounded by her family in her favorite place, Myrtle Beach, SC.
She was born, September 1, 1937, at home. She was the eldest daughter of William Washington and Allie Berta Chaney Cannaday of Prillaman Switch Road, Ferrum, VA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Hassell Prillaman; and siblings, Donald (Dot) Cannaday, Billy Wayne Cannaday, Dillard (Chinese) Cannaday and Maynard Cannaday.
Left to cherish are her sister, Helen Faye Cannaday; her two adoring children (her messes) Debora Prillaman (Billy) Fuller and Timothy Joe (Gina) Prillaman. Also surviving are the jewels of her life, her grandchildren, Cole Fuller, Caleb (Jackie) Fuller, Callie (Justin) Shaffer, Travis Prillaman, Tanner Prillaman and Morgan Prillaman. In addition, her two beautiful great-granddaughters, Pearl and Piper Fuller. Mabel is also survived by two special sisters-in-law, Mamie Prillaman Sullivan and Shirley Prillaman Moore; and many wonderful nieces and nephews and special friends who brought so much joy to her life.
Mabel (Flop-grandma) loved life to the fullest. She was an adventurer and just loved being around her family and friends. She loved playing cards with her family and laughing the night away. She loved music and dancing and teaching the next generation about life. She was always there for any of her family in a moment’s notice if they needed her. Her legacy will live on through her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She taught each of us how to live life to the fullest, to find joy even in sorrow and that there could be good found in every situation. What a legacy!
Funeral services will be held at Prillaman Baptist Church, 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 28, 2025 with Pastor Mike Magnani officiating. Interment will follow in the Prillaman Family Cemetery (Nicholas Creek Road, Ferrum, VA). Her family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family asked that donations be made to the Prillaman Baptist Church, 2340 Prillaman Switch Road, Ferrum, VA. 24088.
A “Life Celebration” will be held on September 1st, 2025, at her home.
