Maggie Jo Clark

December 8, 1996 - August 6, 2024

Maggie Jo Clark, 27, of Bassett, Virginia, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at Chippenham Hospital in Richmond, Virginia. She was born on December 8, 1996, in Lynchburg, Virginia, to Harold Derrick Clark and Carla Maxwell Clark. Maggie is preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Ray and Betty Clark; her maternal great-grandparents, Carl and Beulah Maxwell; and her great-grandfathers, Eugene Deel and Donald Slack.

Maggie had a heart of gold and a love for her family and friends that knew no bounds. Her sweet spirit made everyone feel like the most important person in the room. She was loving, giving, and kind to everyone she encountered. Despite not recognizing her own worth, Maggie was always the first to help someone in need, especially those who felt overlooked, because she understood what that felt like. Her sense of humor was unmatched, and she brought joy to everyone around her.

Her talent for music was extraordinary, yet she remained humble, never seeking recognition for her angelic voice. Music was her solace, and it brought peace to her spirit.

This past year, Maggie fell deeply in love with Jesus, finding in Him her lifeline. She dedicated herself to reading, studying, praying, and singing daily to get through each day. Her faith was strong, though she felt unworthy of His grace.

Maggie is survived by her mother, Carla Maxwell Clark; her father, Harold Derrick Clark; her sister, Jacklin R. Clark McAvoy (Shawn); her maternal grandparents, Jack and Gena Maxwell; and her great-grandmothers, Lou Slack and Shirley Deel. She is also survived by her aunts and uncles: Angie Burnette (Ricky), Neki Clark Turner (Mike), Lorrie Clark Anderson (Charles), David Maxwell (Vikki), Ron Maxwell (Janet), and Richard Maxwell; great-aunts and uncles: Donna Slack Fail (Bruce), Terri Slack Hood (Tommy), Maria McMillan, Edward Maxwell, Brenda Bishop, and Mary Stone (David); as well as many cousins and friends who loved her dearly.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at Bassett Funeral Service Chapel from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM and other times at the home of the mother, Carla Clark. A funeral service will begin at 2:00 PM, at Bassett Funeral Service Chapel, with Pastor Michael Harrison, officiating. Maggie will be laid to rest on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at 11:00am at Stella Christian Church in Critz, VA.

Pallbearers will be Maggie's cousins from both sides of her family: Matthew Burnette, Sarah Burnette Foster, Nikki Anderson, Cody Anderson, Austin Turner, Hailey Turner, Justin Staples, Gavin Maxwell, Andrew Maxwell, Nicole Maxwell Marion, and Courtney Maxwell Lee.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Stanleytown Rehabilitation Center, 240 Riverside Dr, Bassett, VA 24055 to support patients in need of a little extra care.

Her family extends their heartfelt thanks for the prayers and acts of kindness shown during this time. The outpouring of love and support has been tremendous, and they are deeply grateful.

This note was taped to Maggie’s desk so she could see it every day.

Dear God,

Life has its hardships and trials. I am claiming Your promise that says “Do not be anxious about

anything” but pray about everything, and your peace will guard my heart and mind. I pray your truth

would shine greater and be louder than any other voice I hear. I choose to follow you. I know with your

help I will be an over comer. Prince of Peace I need you. I can’t do it alone, please come to my rescue. I

can’t wait to see how you will transform my anxiety into something beautiful.

Be Still and Know
