Manker Dumont Stone

December 28, 1957 - January 2, 2025

Manker Dumont Stone, 67, of Bassett, Virginia, passed away Thursday, January 2, 2025, at his residence. He was born on December 28, 1957, in Martinsville, Virginia, to the late Ellis Lester Stone and Cora Lee Dodson Stone. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant brother, Joey Stone.

Manker was deeply committed to his community. He had been an active member of the Bassett Jaycees and served with the Bassett Fire Department since 1984, holding the position of president continuously since 2006. A devoted member of the Bassett Church of the Brethren, he also served as the chairman of the Board of Zoning and Appeals (BZA). Manker was the proud owner and operator of Nolen and Stone Furniture. Above all, he was a remarkable father. He enjoyed listening to music, cherishing moments with his family and friends, and had a talent for tinkering, often found as a "professional piddler."

He is survived by two children, William Tanner Stone and Abigail Rose Stone, one sister, Piper Lee Stone; niece LeeAnna Danielle Cassell; long term significant other, Karen Stout; extended children, Tracy Dixon (Robert), Dave Stout (Kim); extended grandchildren, Autumn Joyce, Jace Dixon, and Logan Dixon; and his beloved dog, Riley Jean.

The funeral service will be held on Monday, January 13, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Bassett Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Dr. J.D. Harmon officiating. The visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. The burial will follow at Roselawn Burial Park.
