Margaret Ann Sebastian Vernon

Margaret Vernon, 87, of Bassett, went home to be with the Lord on March 23rd. She was born in North Wilkesboro, NC to Early and Ruby Sebastian on August 28, 1935. She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Richard, Homer, Leon, and Eugene Sebastian; as well as her husband of 60 years, Robert Lee (Bobby) Vernon, Jr.

She is survived by three daughters, Barbara Page (Preston) of Bassett, Wanda Vernon (Ronnie Lewis) of Greensboro, NC, and Lisa Vernon of Roanoke, VA, as well as three sons, Robert Vernon, III of Bassett, Dennis Vernon (Cindi) of Martinsville, and John Vernon (Sandra) of Martinsville. She was also survived by 14 Grandchildren, 19 Great-Grandchildren and two bonus grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Margaret has two sisters, Betty Robinson (Bob) of Concord, NC and Sandra Tomlinson of Ridgeway as well as two brothers, Donnie Sebastian (Anita) and Gary Sebastian (Judy) all of Bassett.

Margaret worked for many years at Bassett Walker Knitting; however, she was best known for her work as cook and day care worker at Stanleytown Baptist Children’s Center. She loved her Church, sang in the choir, worked in the nursery and taught Sunday School and AWANA for young children.

The visitation will be on Monday, March 27th at Stanleytown Amazing Grace Baptist Church beginning at 6pm. Her Celebration of life will be held at 1pm on Tuesday, March 28th , at the church with Pastor Greg Hodges officiating. Interment will follow at Henry Memorial Park.
