Margaret Evans Nealy Moore
Margaret Evans Nealy Moore, 89, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Margaret was born in Keeling , VA on August 21, 1936 to the late Evelyn Margaret Gosney Evans and the late Millard Blake Evans Jr.. She was also predeceased by her loving husband, Mr. John Harvey Moore Sr.
Margaret was of the Christian Faith, where she was an active member of The Tabernacle for many years, and later a member of Spring Garden Community Church. She graduated from Dan River High School in 1954 and the Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1957. She worked at the hospital until 1961. She was the office nurse for Doctors Glenn B. Updike Jr., Frank G. Turner, Robert Simmons, John M. Stoneburner and James D. Sprinkle. She worked the longest for Dr. Frank G. Turner, for over 36 years. She very much enjoyed playing basketball in high school and played league softball in the city and county for many years.
Margaret is survived by a son; Wesley B. Nealy of Blairs, VA; a daughter; Melinda N. Pyron (Bill) of Keeling, VA; a step daughter; June M. Hill (Mike) of Danville, VA; a sister; Lana F. Shelton (Buddy) of Chatham, VA; three grand daughters; three step granddaughters; and two sisters in laws; Carolyn K. Evans and Cleatis Evans.
In addition to her husband and parents, Margaret was predeceased by a step son; John Harvey Moore Jr.; and three brothers; Roy B. Evans, Bobby “Bob” Lee Evans; and Larry M. Evans Sr.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Sunday, March 29, 2026 at 3:00pm at Norris Mt. Hermon Chapel, Danville, VA with Pastor Joey Bray officiating. A visitation will be held prior to the service on the same day from 2-3:00pm also at Norris Mt. Hermon Chapel, Danville, VA.
The family suggest that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to either Blairs Fire and Rescue, at 7100 US Highway 29, Blairs, VA or God’s Pit Crew at 2499 North Main Street, Danville, VA 24540.
